HOPE CORPS SCHOLARSHIPS "Bridging Hope Into Our Communities"
PORTLAND OREGON, USA
As a member of the greater Portland, Oregon community, Compassionate Hands International recognize that many in our nation's urban areas are without significant educational opportunity. That lack of opportunity and its effects have contributed to frustration, poverty, conflicts and at times hopelessness on a level that saddens even the most optimistic among us. Many parts of Portland urban community are not immune from this same lack of opportunity and its effects. In an attempt to address some of these issues in our local community and build a "bridge" back to these same communities, Compassionate Hands International has established The Hope Corps Scholarship. The Hope Corps Scholarship provides each Portland Oregon Scholarship Recipient $7,500 per year in direct payments towards Tuition, for up to four consecutive years, to a Four Year University of the Recipient’s choice. To have a Hope Corps Scholarship renewed after the first year, each Recipient shall return to the Portland, Oregon area, and undertake a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid community service at pre-approved location(s) in the summers between their University Freshman/Sophomore year and Sophomore/Junior year. The Community Service will take in some of our city’s most needy urban areas. Additionally, each Recipient shall be required to meet with a chosen Member of the Scholarship Selection Committee (i.e. as a Mentor) a minimum of 3 times per year in each Scholarship year.
As of 2021, Compassionate Hands provides Scholarships to two young girls, each in the Junior Year of College
